The eye of hurricane Lili passed over Cayman Brac at 9:30am Monday morning. During this moment of calm, we watched as Orion, the Hurricane Hunter airplane flew over the resort. After that, the winds picked up and we headed in for a day-long rum-punch party. Welcome to the tropics during hurricane season!
A native boat captain explained that Cayman is situated in the Caribbean such that most hurricanes steer clear of the islands as they head north, "but you never know where she will go, she is like a ship without a rudder"
After the hurricane passed, it was back to the usual routine of chasing turtles, petting stingrays and SCUBA diving. The island's geology allows for a quick recovery from major storms and offered extraordinary wall diving.
