Smiling players sporting leis and coaches clad in Hawaiian shirts are the normal post-Super Bowl images of the NFL. Honolulu has hosted the Pro Bowl since its inception 30 years ago. The NFL, however, recently announced that next year's edition will be held in Miami. A change not taken to warmly by the players and Hawaiian alike. We thought we better check out some NFL pageantry and what might be the last of an entertaining tradition.
Dean has had a busy 2 months! At 9 and 10 months old he went to Japan, started swimming lessons, dressed as a ninja for Halloween and went to Floriade in Canberra. To see photos of these events click on the links below.
It was time for a holiday and we decided to take this one outside of Australia. Being in relatively close proximity to Asia and having a baby in tow, we decided on Japan.
Our trip to Japan exposed me to the concept of geotagging photos and I now realize that future digital cameras will most likely include GPS receivers. This inspired me to update our photo database to include latitude and longitude information for use with the Google Maps API. With no fancy equipment, the photos from our trip to Japan were manually tagged using Google Earth. You can see the result of this in two places,
In the Japan slideshow (and perhaps future slideshows), there is a link called 'picture location' that will load the satellite view of the location where the photo was taken.
The photo map is an active server page built to read geotag info from the database and map thumbnails of the pictures and their description.
Dean cut his first 2 teeth on 29 July. He has been testing them out on everything since. Paper products are tested most frequently with cords and plastic as close seconds. Of course tests on the above items are prohibited by his parents and much to his dismay most are interrupted before they start. All this testing really tuckers him out.
Each day, while Mike goes to work, Alana and Dean go on little adventures around Sydney. Alana took the little bugger to the Sydney Botanic Gardens for a bit of bird watching
The Easter Bilby did not hide any eggs around the house this year mainly because Dean is still too young to find them and mom and dad are busy looking after the little tyke. Dean, however, found time on a busy Easter Sunday to befriend a stuffed Bilby.
Here is a little piece of Australiana - a mountain bike frame made in Melbourne, Victoria Australia. A bloke named Warwick runs Thylacine Cycles and builds beautiful frames. This steel single speed mountain bike frame along with a few choice parts serves as an upgrade to the Surly 1x1 and now roams the single track surrounding Sydney.
Dean has his own page! All of his photos and videos will be posted here. Simply click on the 'Dean Updates' button in the navigations pane to the left.
